KO 2024 Clergy Retreats - Session II: Finding Common Ground in an Election Year

Typically, the KO Conference hosts an annual clergy retreat. This year, because it is an election year, we have offered three mini-retreats on the topic of  “Ministry in an Election Year.”

Session I: Disrupting White Christian Nationalism
( was held May 4-5 in Wichita, KS)

Participants remotely attended Eden Seminary’s “Disrupting White Christian Nationalism: Cultural Roots to Election Outcomes” course as a group.

Session II: Finding Common Ground in an Election Year
(scheduled for August 5 at Colonial Church in Prairie Village)

As we minister in our communities, it can be challenging, especially as highly emotionally charged and important issues play at the forefront of voting decisions, to engage in authentic conversations with others. Leonard McMahoh, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care, Spirituality, and Political Theology at the Pacific School of Religion, will lead a workshop about Common Ground Dialogue which strives to bring divergent citizens into deeper conversations for the sake of our democracy.

Clergy may choose to come in on Sunday evening for dinner and fellowship with an overnight stay; OR you may join in starting Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. with a plan to stay over on Monday evening instead with dinner Monday evening included. We will gather at Colonial Church in Prairie Village for worship and workshops led by Leonard McMahoh, PhD. Please plan to attend the entire event (9:30am-5:00 p.m.) on Monday if you register. One night's hotel stay is included in the cost of the retreat, but if you wish to stay for both Sunday and Monday nights, choose only the SUNDAY hotel stay option and book your own room for Monday.

More details coming soon with registration opening in early July.

Session III: Post-Election Wellness Retreat
(in November in Oklahoma City, OK)

Many of us are deeply engaged in advocacy work for justice, and/or minister carefully to “purple” congregations at significant personal cost. After the election, no matter the outcome, we can expect some disappointments in our Red State settings.  This final mini-gathering offers a time of quiet retreat, time to connect, and time to worship together – no other agenda.

Financial assistance is available! Please email lceniceros@kocucc.org for scholarships.
