Leadership Training Opportunities Available for Clergy, Congregations

For the second year, the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference UCC has secured a Leadership Transformation Grant from the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) to offer clergy and lay members of UCC congregations the opportunity to participate in leadership development programs, beginning with the introductory course, Your Leadership Edge.

The Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) is a non-profit organization committed to fostering leadership for stronger, healthier, and more prosperous organizations and communities. During 2021, 46 individuals from UCC congregations in Kansas and Oklahoma participated in the introductory course.

From KLC:  “It’s not difficult to see the challenges facing our world today. Look around you. Situations crying out for more leadership are everywhere. Most of us have something where we’d like to see greater leadership, more action, and better outcomes. That’s where we come in.”

KLC Leadership Principles

1.     Leadership is an activity, not a position.

2.     Anyone can lead, anytime, anywhere.

3.     It starts with YOU and must engage others.

4.     Your purpose must be clear.

5.     It’s risky.

A survey of last year’s Your Leadership Edge participants generated the following comments:

“By providing a common language and structure for talking about leadership, adaptive change can be more successfully addressed by organizations.”

“KLC offers learning reinforce and made real through practice opportunities and meaningful conversation.”

“This leadership development opportunity is a blessing to every congregation by providing a chance for culture change in how to resolve conflict, navigate change, and discern the next faithful step.”

“Complex and difficult issues related to adaptive change can be addressed and managed with confidence and the patience needed for progress.”

Through the new Transformation Grant, K-O has been awarded 50 spots in KLC leadership training events for 2022. Your Leadership Edge is the basic course that covers in-depth essential leadership competencies providing participants with tools and resources to build their capacity to practice and apply fundamental strategies to address real-world challenges. The grant covers 100% of the $400 course fee. Participants or their congregations are obligated to purchase the book, Your Leadership Edge ($19.95), and the KLC Guidebook ($12.95).

The course is held virtually over two days once a month through November, meeting from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with generous breaks throughout the day.
