When I first heard of the earthquake in Haiti on August 14th, my heart sank. Haiti has not yet fully recovered from the devastating earthquake in 2010, the recent assassination of their president, and they are a country in the midst of a pandemic. Unlike the United States, Haiti is one of the poorest counties in the world. And now another earthquake, quickly followed by a tropical storm.

How much can one country endure? How much can its people endure?

I don’t know the answer to these questions, but I know that most of us can’t imagine what it must be like to live in Haiti now or even before this latest devastation. This is one of those times that all we can do right now is pray and give (and give generously.) If possible, give electronically so dollars can be accessed quickly as we join with others across the UCC and ecumenically to make the most impact.

You may click the button below to give directly through Disaster Ministries. Be sure to enter the name of your church as you complete the form so your amount will be credited toward your church’s overall giving. What you give matters here in Kansas and Oklahoma, and around the world.

The people of Haiti need our prayers, but they also need our money. You can read the latest update from Disaster Ministries by clicking below, which is seeking to raise $100,000 within our denomination as part of a concerted effort of giving and support.

Thank you for caring and thank you for giving.
