Clergy sign-on Letter of LGBTQ+ Support from KIFA
Dear Colleague:
As KIFA prepares for the 2024 legislative session, we are thinking of ways to raise our voice on the issues that concern us as justice-oriented faith leaders. One particular target in the legislature last year was the LGBTQ+ community in Kansas, particularly trans and gender non-conforming folks. We expect that to be a major issue again next year.
In an attempt to bring the faith community's voice to greatest strength on this issue, KIFA's LGBTQ+ Working group has written a letter that we are asking clergy members (and lay faith leaders) to sign. It affirms the human dignity of LGBTQ+ Kansans and urges the legislature to do the same.
The state has no compelling interest in passing legislation that harms LGBTQ+ Kansans. As the petition says, "While we may hold differing teachings on LGBTQ+ issues in religious life, we join in common cause against any policy which might cause hurt or harm to people, no matter who they are."
Please view and sign the letter here.
Please feel free to share this with other clergy, in your town or in your denomination. We are asking that this be clergy-only for now.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks very much.
Blessings,
Reb Moti.
