A Prayer for Ukraine

By Rev. Lorraine Ceniceros, Conference Minister

I woke up this morning in my little corner of the world delighted at the light snow that was falling. My life is calm, and I was eager to meet with authorized ministers from across our conference.

The lighthearted feeling drained away when I learned that, while we were sleeping, the citizens in Ukraine were experiencing an invasion from the Russian military.

During my first clergy call with authorized ministers in the K-O Conference later that morning, we listened to the Rev. Eleanor McCormick, who serves as an ecumenical co-worker in the Evangelische Landeskirche in Baden, Germany, which is one of our mission partners.

Eleanor shared her feelings of sadness, and the collective fear that she and her colleagues and friends in Germany are experiencing.

We feel it here in Kansas and Oklahoma, as well.

This war in Europe is happening far away from us, but in truth we are connected to each other in meaningful ways. During our time together this morning, I learned that the churches in Baden will be holding prayer services every day this week at 7:00pm Central European Time, which is 12:00 noon our time.

I ask you to join in this time of prayer, wherever you are, as we collectively pray for hope, safety, and peace for our European siblings.

In the comments below, we invite you to share a prayer, a blessing, or a comforting word for the world.
