Upcoming MESA Zoom Trainings
The Ministerial Excellence, Support, and Authorization team will continue to offer live Zoom trainings for Committees on Ministry and others throughout 2022. All trainings require advance registration; a confirmation email will then be sent to registrants with additional information. Because the Committee on Ministry page that normally shows these listings has not yet migrated to the new site, the trainings are listed below (and these trainings can be shared with Committees on Ministry and in Association/Conference newsletters):
Maintaining healthy boundaries is challenging at any stage in ministry and it is particularly tender and difficult attending to boundaries as we transition out of our last call, and while in retirement. Using "A Sure Foundation", "The Ministerial Code" and Rev. Dr. Bruce Epperly's new book, "The Jubilee Years", Rev. Stephen Boyd and Rev. Tara Barber will offer a focused Boundary Awareness Training for those entering and living in retirement. Note - This training completes individual requirements for boundary training ONLY WHEN authorized by a local Committee on Ministry.
Join Rev. Elizabeth Dilley of MESA, and Rev. Dr. Sarah Lund and members of the UCC Mental Health Network leadership team to explore how COMs can work effectively and appropriately with Members in Discernment and ministers with mental health diagnoses. How can COM processes model supportive accountability and appropriate disclosure (and appropriate non-disclosure) within processes of authorization and oversight? How can our processes themselves contribute to health – or harm – for ministers and MIDs, and how can COMs build their capacity for competent oversight for all in their care?
As the stress of pandemic loss and changes in how church is "done" have increased, so has church conflict. Let's talk about how our COMs can use the Situational Support Consultation process to attend to the challenges our clergy and congregations are facing. We'll reference the Manual on Ministry and new section 3 resources to support our work. Led by Rev. Tara Barber, Minister for Ministerial Support and Accountability.
This training is geared towards clergy in the New England Region, it is open to ministers serving in specialized settings throughout the United Church of Christ. Serving in specialized setting requires particular attention to boundaries within the ministry setting and home church that are challenging and different from those serving as local church pastors. This training will focus on matters that relate specifically to issues that these ministers face, providing opportunities for clergy to reflect on best practices and growth in their practice of ministry.
*Note - This training completes individual requirements for boundary training ONLY WHEN authorized by a local Committee on Ministry.
