Support Needed in Aftermath of Tornado Devastation

Written by Rev. Lorraine Ceniceros
Conference Minister Elect

We awoke on Saturday morning to the news of destructive storms that tore through at least five states the previous night, including Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee. Throughout the weekend, news emerged informing us of the devastating effect the storms had on the communities it moved through, and the profound loss of life.  Parts of Kentucky, in particularly Mayfield, KY, were the hardest hit.

Mayfield, Kentucky

The Indiana-Kentucky Conference disaster relief committee is hard at work, helping local authorities as they shift from the rescue phase into long-term recovery. The team will need resources and support along every step of the way, and donations are deeply appreciated. There are several ways to you can offer your support:

The United Way of Kentucky is working to keep money donated directly related to the work of recovery in Kentucky and you can feel pretty good about your money going directly to this work.  www.uwky.org/tornado

The Indiana-Kentucky Conference website has a donate button. When you add “tornado relief” in the memo line for PayPal the conference administrator will know where to direct the donation.

Checks can be sent to the Conference office. The address is 1100 W. 42nd St. Suite 155 Indianapolis, IN 46208. Please write “Tornado Relief” in the memo line.

The IKC Facebook page has a link to a letter from Rev. Chad Abbott and the IKC disaster coordinator with a link to their PayPal account with Instructions for donations.

In the words of Rev. Chad Abbott, IKC Conference Minister, Rev. Greg Denk, DPRMT Chair and the IKC leadership team:

“For life and limb, property and security, we pray that God will be present to those who suffer, and that God will motivate those of us who can help to offer the work of our hands, prayers, and donations.”

Friends, as we enter the fourth Sunday of Advent let us remember God is always with us and love is our highest calling.  Let us keep in prayer all our siblings who were affected by last weekend’s storms.

Thank you for your support,

Lorraine
