Kansas Leadership Courses and What Comes Next?

For more than two years, people from all around the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference have been attending a leadership course through the Kansas Leadership Center. We’ve been learning about the “how” of leadership: naming our challenges, engaging participation from all of our diverse settings, and courageously entering difficult conversations about our identity and our future. By sharing in the same learnings, we've also begun to develop a shared vocabulary around leadership and change.

If this all sounds interesting to you, we still have space available for more KLC courses through our 2023 grant! The first step is Your Leadership Edge (YLE), a two-day intensive course offered in virtual and in-person formats. If you've already completed YLE and would like to pursue the next course (or two) in the KLC path, we have spaces available for those sessions as well.

To access our grant funding and for additional details, please email Rev. Rachael Pryor, KO Associate Conference Minister.

We’re also ready to move into the next phase: broadening our conversations around those challenges to include as many people as possible from around our Conference. We know the commitment to complete a KLC course doesn't fit everyone's schedule or interest areas. Our next goal is to strengthen our network of cross-Conference relationships through a series of one-to-one or small group dialogues. This way, we can begin to link up individuals and churches who are energized by the same hopes and dreams. Working together, in our local communities and across our region, we’ll help one another overcome hurdles like loneliness, lack of resources, and uncertainty about how to get started.

Some of these conversations are already taking place, currently led by our Conference staff. At this year's Annual Meeting, we'll begin widening the circle of leadership for this relational work. Together we'll gather and share the wisdom of people and churches across the KO Conference. As we build stronger relationships, we lift up everyone's capacity for ministries of justice and extravagant welcome that transform lives and communities.
