Art Foster: A Life Well Lived

Arthur L. Foster

December 27, 1922 - June 5, 2021

By the time I arrived in Kansas-Oklahoma, Art Foster had already retired, but his legacy is well known. The lives he touched extend far beyond the two states of this Conference.

In reading through Art’s file, I learned that he served as an interim at First Congregational Church in McPherson, First Congregational Church in Topeka and at Colonial UCC in Prairie, Village.

He was the Co-founder of the Counseling and Mediation Center in Wichita and established the Pastoral Care Program at Prairie View Hospital In Newton, KS. I was honored to attend and participate in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Art’s ordination back in September of 2018 and was amazed at the journey and incredible accomplishments of this humble servant of God.

As I listened to those who had worked with Art for years, I knew how impossible it was to capture the depth and breadth of his service over these many years. But we can indeed give thanks for a life well lived. A memorial service for Art will be on July 10th at Colonial UCC at 10:00am and you may find a full obituary here.
