Robin Colerick-Shinkle has accepted a call to serve as the pastor at St. John’s UCC in Baldwin City, KS. Robin is not new to KO as she served as the Pastor of Trinity United Christian Church in Cheney, KS from mid-2016 until late 2018 when accepted the position as Chaplain at Lawrence, Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS. While serving at Cheney, Robin had Ordained Ministerial Partner Standing,(OMPS) but because she is a Disciples minister when she left her role at Cheney, she no longer had any formal relationship or standing with the UCC, so we reluctantly said goodbye. We welcome her back and the Committee on Ministry will be requested to once again grant her OMPS while she serves our UCC Church in Baldwin. Robin is representative of what is becoming so common in the UCC, denominational boundaries are less important than theological “fit”; and the sense of call to a particular congregation. The UCC polity and our relationship with the Disciples of Christ makes this exchange of ministers the a gift to both denominations. Robin begins at St John’s this month; welcome back!
(And yes, Robin is related to Bob Colerick who is serving as the Interim Pastor at Frieden’s in Bern, KS. This may be the first time KO has had a father and daughter serving as pastors of congregations at the same time.)
