We have all seen the devastating images of the fires in Australia and all we know is what we hear on the news. When I arrived in Cleveland in 1991, I was greeted by Rev. Hollis Wilson who was serving as an Assistant to the President, Rev. Paul Sherry. Hollis was a great colleague and we worked together for many years mostly on General Synod. While in Cleveland, Hollis met Rosa who was serving in the national offices though a program with the United Church in Australia; you can already guess the rest of the story.
Hollis and Rosa have lived in Perth, Australia for the last 25 years or so. While ordained in the UCC, Hollis now holds his standing with the Uniting Church in Australia. I reached out to Hollis to get an update on the fires in Australia, what the church is doing and how those here in United States who wish could be supportive.
The UCC sent funds to Australia through the global mission units of Uniting Church of Australia and the Churches of Christ. Here’s a link to the Uniting Church of Australia site addressing the fires and that provides additional ways to provide financial support for those who wish.to do so. The Body of Christ truly has no borders. https://assembly.uca.org.au/news
